Ok, so after a short hiatus over at Barefoot and Raw I have decided this week to bring The Fit Option back to its rightful home.
I have been thinking long and hard about what to do here at the site now that my passions have become more clearly defined and I find that my vision for The Fit Option is still the same as ever. EDUCATION.
Education is key in all decisions we make in life and no more so than with our health. If we don’t know what is good for us then how can we possibly do the best for ourselves.
I read somewhere this week about a diet approach where ‘no foods are banned’. Well I’m sorry but that is just a gimic designed to get you to sign up. If you are overweight then you need to overhall your diet and of course some foods are going to be banned. Because if they weren’t then you wouldn’t be needing a diet in the first place.
Now, some people may find that a little direct and be upset at my approach but I am not going to sugar coat the fact that there is very little education out there about preventing getting into the position of needing a diet in the first place.
Somewhere along the way we lost sight of the fact that there is a direct link between the foods that we put in our mouths as nourishment and the health that we get back out as a result of those foods. It is a fact that is not helped by misleading advertising and marketing that makes us believe that the majority of foods sold in boxes, cartons and packages are good for us when in reality the opposite is true.
My message has always been that we need to take our eating back to basics. To strip away all the emotional attachments that we add to food and just eat it for the simple purpose that it was provided for. TO NOURISH AND TO PROVIDE FUEL FOR OUR BODIES.
Food shouldn’t be what we turn to to make us happy, it shouldn’t be the main focus of eating out with friends or for celebrating special occasions. Those friends and those occasions should be the focus and the reason that we are happy.
Food shouldn’t be our crutch, our turn to in bad times. In the end it doesn’t make us feel any better and very often just adds to our woes as we feel guilty for eating it.
So, yes I believe that there are foods that we shouldn’t eat, that serve us absolutely no purpose nutritionally and when we are eating anything that is the only thing that we should be thinking about. Does this food serve me nutritionally?
And before you think that eating this way will make you a miserable person with nothing to look forward to in life then think again.
When you stop everything revolving around the food you eat then you have so much more time and energy to go out and enjoy the good things in life. I know, I have experienced it.
I changed my diet 7 years ago and I have never been happier because as well as changing my diet I changed the whole way I looked at food. For me food now serves one purpose. To nourish me. No more and no less.
I still enjoy the foods that I eat very much and probably more so because with every bite I know that I am giving my body the most optimum nutrition that I possibly can.
And before you tell me that this can’t work for ‘normal’ people living in the ‘normal’ world then answer me this – What is normal? Doing what everybody else does?
That’s not normal, that is just following the pack because you are afraid of looking different and that is something else altogether.
